For his third solo exhibit at Sullivan Goss, Jon Francis has produced a wonderful assortment of iconic American scenes. Building on his past successes, Francis uses the warm hues of his Tonalist palette to express an enduring belief in the simple pleasures of American life. These pleasures can come from an endless summer afternoon at the beach, a freshly washed and waxed classic car, or a trip to the ballpark. Francis elevates these moments into everyday monuments. We cherish these images because they connect us to our collective past, and we can recognize them even if they are not a part of our individual experience.
Past or present, urban or rural, Jon Francis captures images that tell the American story very well.
