ALIA EL-BERMANI: BEAUTIFUL VESSELS

Susan’s AVB is so articulate that I find myself unable to add anything to the discussion. Instead, I have reproduced a couple of wonderfully insightful comments the artist made about her own work.

The Artist on Painting Still Lifes

The practice of painting directly from life is a humbling thing. These still lives also gave me a sense of the struggle of making order out of chaos. Painting these images was a sort of penance and escape at the same time. I’d go to my studio and try to find ‘that’ grain of rice or sand where I had left off the night before. It was both numbing and exhilarating. – Alia El-Bermani

The Artist on Her Exhibit

I continue to try to show the beauty of the mundane, the simple, and the overlooked. For me, there is something interesting about having really simple objects contained by something very elegant or dressy. – Alia El-Bermani

What do you think of the exhibit? How about the AVB?
