Betty Lane: A Certain Kind of Woman
The third woman artist whose work graces the walls of our Contemporary Gallery is Betty Lane. Lane lived an extraordinary life and was a wholly unique individual and artist. The staff at Sullivan Goss is especially excited by the opportunity to show the work of an artist we all feel was worthy of great acclaim, but who remained fairly obscure during her lifetime due to a variety of historical circumstances.
This collection of work demonstrates the artist’s rare talent through bold experiments with her media, producing an ever evolving body of work that remains fresh and vibrant today.
To learn more about the artist’s life and work, click on the image above to watch the video that accompanies the exhibit. Once you’ve done that, come in and see the work for yourself. And as always, please post your comments on the blog to let us know what you think.

I was browsing around the internet on a rainy Sunday and found your gallery. Betty Lane was one of my neighbors on Cape Cod when I was growing up. We had a distinguished group of artists, writers, and photographers – Eugene Fitsch, Conrad Aikin, Thomas Bouchard and Betty. It was a great environment for a young, creative girl like myself. I so wish I could go back in time and spend hours with each of these distinguished people. Thank you for your collections of Betty’s work. I hope some day I can hang some of her wonderful paintings in my home.
