The Amazing Alchemy of James Haggerty Ceramics
Just in case you have yet to be seduced by the beauty of James Haggerty’s hand spun pottery, we dare you to come in to the gallery to see his current show of new work. There is an intriguingly mysterious quality to James’ ceramics, which is in part the product of his years of studying some of the greatest ceramicist in this country’s history. At the heart of this mystery is the top secret glaze recipes that each ceramicist devises through years of carefully documented experimentation. In the case of Haggerty’s work his secret recipes are used in combination with a ancient and difficult technique known as “Strike Reduction” or “Pursian luster” to create the metallic lusters and incredible textures that are trademarks in Haggerty’s work.
The picture above was taken a few days ago, when the sunlight from the street was at just the right angle to create an incredible light show on the peddle below the bowl. This is the sort of unexpected beauty that makes us all feel very lucky to work around such amazing pieces of art.
Come in and see them for yourself. The show of Haggerty’s new work can be found in our vintage gallery and will be on view until January 31st. To see a list of images, dimensions, and prices you can find the exhibit’s web page by clicking here.

I love visiting the front area of the gallery and see the Haggerty work. It is as if Mr. Haggerty has harnessed the internal color of prismatic light in his glazes. Sometimes on a single piece, in a small area, I can find a complete breakdown of the color wheel in his pieces. I love this work. Trixie
